Education in our country has largely become a commercial enterprise. It has been reduced to a narrow set of skills aimed mainly at economic and material gains. This approach turns students into mere components of an economic system, leaving many of their human potentialities underdeveloped.
Students possess vast potential that requires a comprehensive and holistic educational system for proper development. Such a system must be broad, balanced, and grounded in belief in the full capacity of the human being. It should aim not only to produce professionals skilled in their respective fields, but also individuals who are well-rounded in personality, character, and knowledge.
The Pakistan Institute of Law (PIL) has developed a holistic system of education that provides an environment for the total and balanced development of students across multiple dimensions. This approach reflects the philosophy of Allama Iqbal, emphasizing struggle, service to humanity, self-realization, and spiritual growth to achieve a forward-looking vision.
In this system, knowledge is not divided into religious and secular domains. Rather, it integrates revealed knowledge with acquired knowledge gained through rational, intellectual, and philosophical inquiry. Character building, or tarbiyyah, is a core principle of this educational model. Equal importance is given to efficiency, professionalism, and academic excellence, as well as to human values such as compassion, cooperation, tolerance, and altruism.
